What You See is What You Get
Conversations in Awareness - Entry 56 - What You See is What You Get
Perhaps the easiest way to describe our perception of the world is that we tend to believe the world is happening to us - which is the view of the ego, rather than the Truth which is that the world is happening from us.
The latter brings several points from non-dualistic teachings into awareness:
Radical acceptance. What is happening in your life now, even if you don’t particularly like it, is here because you created it. If it’s a situation that you’d consider “bad”, you can say, instead, that you miscreated it - but that situation is upon you now, all the same. Every thing in your life comes in because you are a powerful creator: created in the One Creator’s own image - and what you give your focused energy or intention to grows and becomes “reality” in your life (in quotes, and a small “r” because it isn’t the Truth - but we’ll get to that later). This occurs whether it is something you dream of in Love - thus creating something beautiful, or something you mis-create in fear (often by trying to avoid an outcome you would consider “negative”). So - accepting that whatever is here, now, comes from you and the THOUSANDS of decisions you’ve made (thousands of decisions based either in Love or fear) allows you to take the power back that has been yours all along. The world is not happening to you, it is happening from you.
The use of “others” as items for the projection of blame. Many of you know this as the mirror concept. The Ego’s favorite game is blaming others for what we feel. This is the way it ensures we stay in the mind structure of separation - which is the “condition” that keeps us believing we are different than everyone else: “special”, “unique”, “private” and “individual”; ultimately stuck in the-world-is-happening-to-me mentality. We’ve all done this because it’s what we are taught, in one way or another, but engaging in this, again, gives your all-creative power - and your inherent ability to be joyous and unshakeable in your peace at all times - to others; keeping you in a state of suffering. And suffering truly is optional in this lifetime. Why? Because it is always your decision to partake. When you see something in another that you either like or don’t like, it is simply a reflection of a belief you have about yourself. The ego projects this from your mind and lays it on others to keep you believing it’s the “other person”, and not you, causing the feelings you feel. This is a big whammy to the ego’s thought system, because no longer are you a victim or an “innocent bystander”; and while that is one way of seeing it, a more empowering view is that you are no longer subject to outside forces “beyond your control” - you are the captain of your own ship, at all times, and you have the power, the ability, and the support to change course at all times. Nothing outside of you usurps this power. It is, literally, WITHIN you.
Changing your mind to master the illusion. Once you can at least allow the possibility of the last two points to sink into your mind and percolate a bit, you can begin to see everything from a new vantage point. It’s that change in perception - the “little willingness” as Jesus says in A Course in Miracles, to begin to see things differently that allows your enlightenment and understanding to dawn upon you - and that ushers your suffering out the door. Why? Because you are choosing differently. Instead of making decisions based on fear, whether that presents itself as anxiety, worry, hate, frustration, rushing, or “being careful” - you are choosing anew in a thought system based in Love (and not the ego’s definition of love - with a small “l” - we’ll discuss that at another time).
Yes. It is that simple. Choosing in Love - forgiving “others” because it’s not “them” - will change your experience of the world.
You will have many questions arise here - the ego loves to try to create holes in this version of experiencing life. You may notice any number of feelings as you read this short post: guilt, abject fear, arguments against choosing suffering or plainly feeling like it’s ludicrous to imagine throwing “safety” out the window. But if you read carefully, you’ll see that none of that is written here. Rather, the ego will try it’s best to keep you away from this Truth because it fears what will come of it when you turn to Love, compassion, and a total state of peace. It worries that you’ll be bored, that life will lose it’s appeal - I can tell you, and others who are working with the Truths present in A Course in Miracles, that this is not the case. In this work you find the Real you (with a capital “R”) - you let go of fears you did’t realize you even had - and life is, truly, beautiful. Not hard, not frightening, not a rat race to pay bills and “look” a certain way while you feign happiness. Yes, as with all teachings some have utilized ACIM for personal gain - some have made a cult of it - but that is not the case here. (Of course I’d say that, right?!) Well, you can only find out for yourself. Explore the resources on my website, I don’t get any monetary gain by sharing these. Watch a few videos, see what you feel, and ask yourself: What if this is true? Why not? What could life look like for me if I allow this to be a possibility?
It is so. It is Truth. Feel free to reach out at any time with questions.
Stay well, be Love.
